Sunny Deol's sequel, 'Gadar 2,' achieved a significant milestone in box office history. Released over the Independence Day weekend, the film garnered substantial earnings on a global scale.
Within just a month of its release, it proudly claimed the position of the second-highest-grossing Hindi film.
This remarkable achievement surpassed the previous record held by 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,' starring Prabhas, which had amassed an impressive Rs 510 crore (Rs 5 billion) in Hindi language collections.
'Gadar 2' outperformed SS Rajamouli's epic, accumulating a staggering Rs 512 crore (Rs 5 billion) in Hindi language earnings, solidifying its place as the second-highest-grossing film.
As per Sachnilk's reports, the film earned Rs 284.63 crore (Rs 2 billion) in its opening week, followed by Rs 134.47 crore (Rs 1 billion) in the second week, Rs 63.35 crore (Rs 60 million) in the third week, and an additional Rs 27.55 crore in the fourth week, bringing its total collection to an impressive Rs 512 crore (Rs 5 billion, approximately).
However, it still trails behind Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan,' which was released in January 2023 and grossed an astounding Rs 524.62 crore, claiming the title of the highest-grossing Hindi film to date.
'Gadar 2' made its theatrical debut on August 11, sharing the spotlight with Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' and Rajinikanth's 'Jailer.'
The film's monumental success has catapulted it ahead of other superhit films in terms of lifetime collections, including Salman Khan's 'Sultan' (Rs 300 crore), Deepika Padukone's 'Padmaavat' (Rs 302 crore), 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' (Rs 320 crore), 'Tiger Zinda Hai' (Rs 339 crore), 'PK' (Rs 340 crore), and more.
However, 'Gadar 2' has experienced a drop in numbers since the release of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan,' directed by Atlee, which has been setting the box office ablaze and crossed the Rs 200 crore mark within just two days of its release.
'Gadar 2' serves as a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster of the same name. In this follow-up, Sunny Deol reprises his iconic role as Tara Singh, while Ameesha plays his wife, Sakeena.
The film also boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Utkarsh Sharma, Simratt Kaur, Manish Wadhwa, Rohit Chaudhary, Gaurav Chopra, Luv Sinha, Rakesh Bedi, Dolly Bindra, and others.
In a review by WION, film critic Shomini Sen noted, "In 'Gadar 2,' Deol wields a cannon at a crowd and demonstrates superhuman strength, reminiscent of Thor in Marvel films. Deol, despite being in his 60s, delivers a commendable performance, carrying the outlandish and melodramatic film on his shoulders.
Utkarsh Sharma, playing his onscreen son and sidekick, shines with action sequences and compelling dialogue delivery. As Anil Sharma's son, he secures a substantial role alongside Deol.
